Fibreglass Pool Ideas Papamoa
Fibreglass pool ideas for Papamoa — one-piece shells, built in New Zealand.

Fibreglass pools made in New Zealand, and in Papamoa the installer is the same company that makes the shell — our own yard and crew, based in Tauranga. Below is how it works for Papamoa, what changes the price, and the questions people ask before they commit.
At a glance
Sizes are quoted as internal, water-line measurements — an 8 x 4 is 8 x 4 of water. Depth is the shell height, and capacity is measured to the top of the shell.
The photo up top
What to look at in a pool photo
That is a finished Bayside pool, and it is the best way we can show you what one looks like in a yard — it is not a photo of a section in Papamoa. Look at how much room the pool takes out of the space around it, where the water line sits when you look out from the house, and what the yard looks like once the paving and planting are done. For an in-ground fibreglass pool in Papamoa, those three decide it.
- The footprint, not the model Look at how much room the pool takes out of the space around it. That is the number that decides which model fits a Papamoa section, and it is the one thing a plan drawing will never show you as clearly as a photograph does. Measure your clear space, then choose the model.
- The water line A fibreglass shell is moulded in one piece, so the water line runs unbroken from end to end — no joins, no panels, nothing to line up. On a swimming pool that is the line you look at every day of the summer.
- The surrounds, which finish it What sits around the pool is what makes the yard look deliberate rather than unfinished. Paving, decking and fencing are decisions to settle before the digger arrives, not after — and they are a separate purchase from the shell.
Want to see one in the ground rather than a photo of one? Bayside Pools installs right across Bay of Plenty — give them a call and ask. Every shell they set was moulded in our own factory first.
Your Papamoa installer
Who installs a fibreglass pool in Papamoa
Papamoa is installed by us. Bayside’s Bay of Plenty branch runs out of its own yard at 30 Alach Street, Gate Pa, in Tauranga, and that is where the trucks, the excavator, the pool equipment and the install crew are based. Michael Corlett runs the region. The shell still comes from the Whakatāne factory, but nothing about a Papamoa install is handed to somebody who has not seen the pool being built.
The installer is the manufacturer
In most of the country a Bayside shell goes to a licensed local installer. In the Bay of Plenty we do it ourselves, so the company that moulded the shell is the company that sets it.
The crew is across town, not over the hill
Yard, trucks, plant and crew are all in Tauranga. When the team turns up on a Papamoa section, it has driven across town — not travelled in for the job.
The shell is made over the hill
Every Bayside shell is laid up by hand in Whakatāne, and you are welcome to come through and watch yours being built before it is delivered.
One team from the site visit to handover
The person who walks your section and quotes the job is on site when the shell goes in, and the base and the drainage are built for the ground in front of them rather than one standard dig.
One thing the ground does here: Papamoa is sandy coastal ground, and the base and the drainage are specified for it rather than pulled off a template. That is settled at the site visit, before anything is ordered.
Before you commit
What to work out first, Papamoa
Start with your own section, not with a brochure. The four points below are the ones that decide which fibreglass pool model makes sense at your place.
Space on the section
Work to the space you have, not the pool you saw online. A pool that fits the section cleanly is worth more than a bigger one that crowds it.
How you will use it
A plunge pool for cooling off, a family pool for the kids, or a lap pool if you want to swim properly. That single answer narrows the range faster than anything else.
Getting it in
Where the shell can physically get in matters as much as where it looks best. That is a site assessment question, and it is the one worth having before anything is ordered.
Around the pool
What goes around the pool is a separate purchase and usually a later one. Copings, the surround, fencing and landscaping are worth planning at the same time as the pool even when they are bought later.
One thing, three names
Three names for the same thing
Worth two minutes, because swimming pool, in-ground pool and fibreglass pool carry slightly different promises.
In-ground pool
A pool set into the ground rather than standing above it. Every Bayside shell is designed to go in the ground, so an in-ground pool is the normal case rather than an upgrade. Where digging is not wanted, there is also a Freestanding option in the range — still a Bayside shell, sitting above ground.
Fibreglass pool
Fibreglass means the pool body is a one-piece moulded shell, made in our Whakatāne factory and delivered complete. On site the work is preparing the base, placing and setting the shell, then everything around it — rather than building the pool body itself on site.
Swimming pool
The widest of the three, and the one people type most. It covers a small plunge pool through to a 12 m family and lap pool — the difference being length, depth and how much of the section they take up.
On the numbers: the size you are quoted is the water-line size, not the outside of the shell. An 8 x 4 pool gives you 8 x 4 of water. Depth is the height of the shell, and volume is measured to the top of the shell. That is true of every inground pool we build, whatever spelling you searched.
What fits
What pool size works in Papamoa
The smallest swimming pool shell in the fibreglass range is the 3.6 x 2.2 m Tranquil; the largest is the 12 x 4.4 m Big Bertha, with the 4 x 2.4 m Pause, 5.45 x 3.4 m Element, 6.5 x 3 m Retreat, 7 x 3.5 m Cove, 8 x 4 m Satin, 9 x 4.4 m Shoreline and 10 x 4.4 m Coastline in between. Ten models in all, all made in Whakatāne. Worth knowing before you measure: the dimensions are internal, water-line sizes — an 8 x 4 is 8 x 4 — while the shell itself takes a little more room than that, and the depth is the shell height.
The sequence
What actually happens, from quote to first swim
No two sites are the same, but the order is. This is the shape of a Bayside fibreglass pool install.
- Site assessment — your section is looked at before anything is dug: where the pool can go, how the machines reach the hole, where the shell can be placed.
- Design and quote — the model and size that fit, and a written price. Get the quote in writing and itemised, so you can see exactly what you are paying for.
- Manufacture — the shell is moulded in Whakatāne, in New Zealand, under our own roof.
- Excavation and base — the hole is dug, the base is prepared properly, and the shell is set by the same team that quoted the job.
- Fill and commission — water goes in, the filtration and pump are commissioned, and the pool is running.
- Handover — you get the pool handbook, which sets out how to look after the shell.
The fast part is the dig and the shell going in. The slow part is the water, the surrounds and the fence — plan for that, not for the dig.
Looking after it
What ownership looks like the year after
Once the pool is in, the job is mostly the water. Balanced water and sensible use of the equipment is what keeps the surface and the gear healthy, and the maintenance page covers the routine.

Questions
Papamoa pool questions, answered
What does a swimming pool cost in Papamoa?
It depends on the model, the size, how easily the shell reaches your section, and what you put around the pool — those four things move the number more than anything else. We do not quote a figure without seeing the site, because a wrong number wastes your time and ours. The pool cost guide carries the bands our own written quotes run across; your installer writes the actual price for your section. Send us your section and you will get a written quote for it.
What size fibreglass pool should I get in Papamoa?
That is a question about your section, not about Papamoa in general — the clear space is what decides it. The fibreglass swimming pool range starts at the 3.6 x 2.2 m Tranquil plunge pool and runs to the 12 x 4.4 m Big Bertha, with ten models in between. A tight section usually ends up at a plunge or compact model; a section with room usually takes a 7 to 8 metre family pool. Worth remembering that our sizes are internal, water-line measurements, so an 8 x 4 pool gives you 8 x 4 of water, and the shell needs a little more space than that.
What consents does a pool need in Papamoa?
Pool fencing is the part that is not optional. It has to comply with the building code, and it is checked — that applies to any pool in Papamoa, whether the pool itself needed a consent or not. Depending on the section, a resource or building consent may also come into it. We work through that as part of the job rather than leaving you to work it out, and the fencing sits outside the pool price, so ask for it to be shown on the quote.
How long does a pool installation take?
The excavation and the shell placement are the quick part — usually a few days once the team is on site. What takes the time is what comes after: filling, surrounds, fencing and getting the water balanced. You get a realistic sequence up front rather than just the fast part, so you can plan the garden and the fencing around it.
Which fibreglass pool model is most popular around Papamoa?
It follows the sections rather than the postcode. Where space is tight, the plunge and compact models win — the Tranquil, the Pause and the Element. Where there is room, a 7 to 8 metre family pool is the usual pick, which is the Retreat, the Cove or the Satin. The whole range with its dimensions is on the pool range page if you want to see the sizes side by side before you ring anyone.
Are you actually a Papamoa pool builder, or do you travel in?
In Papamoa we are the manufacturer and the installer. Bayside’s Bay of Plenty branch runs out of its own yard at 30 Alach Street, Gate Pa, and the trucks, plant and install crew are based there, so the crew on a Papamoa section has driven across town rather than over the hill. Your shell comes from our Whakatāne factory; the install, the base and the startup are done by our own team, and the person who quotes your job is the person on your site when it goes in.
Are fibreglass pools in-ground pools?
Yes — a Bayside shell is designed to be set into the ground, so an in-ground pool is the standard case rather than a special order. The range also includes a Freestanding option for a section where digging is not wanted; it is the same shell family, sitting above ground.
What is different about a fibreglass pool?
The shell arrives as one finished piece rather than being built up on site, so the on-site work is preparing the base, placing and setting it, and everything around the water. That is also why the surface matters so much: ours is ChlorShield, the gelcoat system on every Bayside shell, and the ChlorShield page sets out what it is built to do. We will talk about any pool type with you — we just sell the one we manufacture.
What colours do fibreglass pools come in?
There is a full palette on the pool colours page, shown on real pools rather than as swatches on a screen — which is the only honest way to choose one. You can also ask to see the colour in person before the shell is ordered.
Where does the crew come from for a Papamoa install?
Our Tauranga yard. The shell is moulded in Whakatāne and comes over to us, but the excavator, the trucks and the install crew are all based at 30 Alach Street, Gate Pa, so a Papamoa job is run from across town. It also means the yard and the factory are both close enough to go and look at if anything needs sorting.
