Fibreglass Pool Ideas Mount Maunganui
Swimming pool and in-ground pool ideas for a Mount Maunganui section.

We manufacture the shell, and at the Mount we install it as well. That is what a Bayside fibreglass pool in Mount Maunganui is: built in Whakatāne, set by our own crew out of the Tauranga yard.
At a glance
Sizes are quoted as internal, water-line measurements — an 8 x 4 is 8 x 4 of water. Depth is the shell height, and capacity is measured to the top of the shell.

What to look at in a pool photo
That is a finished Bayside pool, and it is the best way we can show you what one looks like in a yard — it is not a photo of a section in Mount Maunganui. Look at how much room the pool takes out of the space around it, where the water line sits when you look out from the house, and what the yard looks like once the paving and planting are done. For an in-ground fibreglass pool in Mount Maunganui, those three decide it.
- How the pool sits in the section Start from the space you actually have. The shell is only part of the footprint once the surround and somewhere to walk have taken their share, and that arithmetic decides what fits in Mount Maunganui long before the model does.
- The colour of the water The water takes its colour from the finish on the shell, and it is the one choice on the whole build you look at every day. Worth seeing a finished pool rather than a swatch before you commit.
- What surrounds it Paving, decking and glass fencing are what turn a shell in the ground into a yard. They are priced and chosen separately from the pool itself, and getting them settled early keeps the build moving.

Your Mount installer
Who installs a fibreglass pool at the Mount
Mount Maunganui is covered by our own team. Bayside’s Bay of Plenty branch is based at 30 Alach Street, Gate Pa, with the yard, the plant and the install crew, and it covers the Mount as part of the western Bay. Around most of the country a Bayside shell is installed by a licensed local installer; here the manufacturer and the installer are the same company, and the shell is moulded over the hill in Whakatāne.
Beach-side ground
The ground at the Mount and along this stretch of coast is sandy, so the base and the drainage are worked out for the ground on your section rather than assumed.
Salt air and wind
A section this close to the water catches wind and salt air, which is worth thinking about where the pool equipment will sit as much as where the pool goes.
Yard and crew in Tauranga
Trucks, excavator, pool equipment and install crew are all based at 30 Alach Street, Gate Pa. The team arriving at your place is a local team.
You can watch it being built
Every shell is laid up by hand in Whakatāne, and you are welcome to come through and see yours before it is delivered.
What a Mount section will take is settled on site: a tight yard usually ends up at a compact or plunge model, and a section with room opens up to a 10 to 12 metre pool. Access, levels and where the shell can be placed are all worked out before anything is ordered.
For a Mount Maunganui section
What to work out first, Mount Maunganui
Every decision on a Mount Maunganui pool comes back to four questions — how much clear space you have, how the pool will actually be used, how the shell gets to the hole, and what happens around the water. Settle those and the rest follows.
Space on the section
Measure the clear space first — the pool, the surround you want, and room to walk around it. We usually start from what actually fits and work back to the model.
How you will use it
A plunge pool for cooling off, a family pool for the kids, or a lap pool if you want to swim properly. That single answer narrows the range faster than anything else.
Getting it in
Tight side access, a steep driveway or a fence in the wrong place all change how the shell is placed. Better found on a site visit than on installation day.
Around the pool
What goes around the pool is a separate purchase and usually a later one. Copings, the surround, fencing and landscaping are worth planning at the same time as the pool even when they are bought later.
Plain English
Three names for the same thing
The words get used interchangeably — swimming pool, in-ground pool, fibreglass pool — so it is worth being precise about what you are buying.
In-ground pool
A pool set into the ground rather than standing above it. Every Bayside shell is designed to go in the ground, so an in-ground pool is the normal case rather than an upgrade. Where digging is not wanted, there is also a Freestanding option in the range — still a Bayside shell, sitting above ground.
Fibreglass pool
Fibreglass means the pool body is a one-piece moulded shell, made in our Whakatāne factory and delivered complete. On site the work is preparing the base, placing and setting the shell, then everything around it — rather than building the pool body itself on site.
Swimming pool
The widest of the three, and the one people type most. It covers a small plunge pool through to a 12 m family and lap pool — the difference being length, depth and how much of the section they take up.
A detail that catches people out: our sizes are internal, water-line dimensions. An 8 x 4 is 8 x 4. Depth is the shell height and capacity is to the top of the shell. Whether you type inground pool or in-ground pool, it is the same pool.
Sizes
The size range, smallest to largest
The smallest swimming pool shell in the fibreglass range is the 3.6 x 2.2 m Tranquil; the largest is the 12 x 4.4 m Big Bertha, with the 4 x 2.4 m Pause, 5.45 x 3.4 m Element, 6.5 x 3 m Retreat, 7 x 3.5 m Cove, 8 x 4 m Satin, 9 x 4.4 m Shoreline and 10 x 4.4 m Coastline in between. Ten models in all, all made in Whakatāne. Worth knowing before you measure: the dimensions are internal, water-line sizes — an 8 x 4 is 8 x 4 — while the shell itself takes a little more room than that, and the depth is the shell height.
How it goes in
The sequence of a pool build in Mount Maunganui
The sequence below is the same on every job — what changes is how much of it your section makes difficult.
- A look at the site — where the pool sits, how the digger and the shell get in, and where the equipment goes.
- A written quote — the pool itself, in the ground and running, with the inclusions listed plainly.
- The shell is built — moulded in Whakatāne by the people who make every Bayside pool.
- Dig and prepare — excavation, base preparation and backfill of the hole.
- Place the shell — set on the prepared base by the installer who quoted the work.
- Fill, commission and hand over — water in, pump and filtration running, handbook handed across.
Expect the shell to go in quickly and the finish to take longer. Fencing in particular has to be done before the pool is used, not after.
After handover
Once the pool is in
Once the pool is in, the job is mostly the water. Balanced water and sensible use of the equipment is what keeps the surface and the gear healthy, and the maintenance page covers the routine.

Questions
Questions about a pool in Mount Maunganui
Are in-ground pools in Mount Maunganui expensive?
It depends on the model, the size, how easily the shell reaches your section, and what you put around the pool — those four things move the number more than anything else. We do not quote a figure without seeing the site, because a wrong number wastes your time and ours. The pool cost guide carries the bands our own written quotes run across; your installer writes the actual price for your section. Send us your section and you will get a written quote for it.
What size pool suits a Mount Maunganui section?
That is a question about your section, not about Mount Maunganui in general — the clear space is what decides it. The fibreglass swimming pool range starts at the 3.6 x 2.2 m Tranquil plunge pool and runs to the 12 x 4.4 m Big Bertha, with ten models in between. A tight section usually ends up at a plunge or compact model; a section with room usually takes a 7 to 8 metre family pool. Worth remembering that our sizes are internal, water-line measurements, so an 8 x 4 pool gives you 8 x 4 of water, and the shell needs a little more space than that.
Do I need a consent for a pool in Mount Maunganui?
Pool fencing is the part that is not optional. It has to comply with the building code, and it is checked — that applies to any pool in Mount Maunganui, whether the pool itself needed a consent or not. Depending on the section, a resource or building consent may also come into it. We work through that as part of the job rather than leaving you to work it out, and the fencing sits outside the pool price, so ask for it to be shown on the quote.
How long does a pool installation take?
The excavation and the shell placement are the quick part — usually a few days once the team is on site. What takes the time is what comes after: filling, surrounds, fencing and getting the water balanced. You get a realistic sequence up front rather than just the fast part, so you can plan the garden and the fencing around it.
What is the most popular Bayside pool in Mount Maunganui?
It follows the sections rather than the postcode. Where space is tight, the plunge and compact models win — the Tranquil, the Pause and the Element. Where there is room, a 7 to 8 metre family pool is the usual pick, which is the Retreat, the Cove or the Satin. The whole range with its dimensions is on the pool range page if you want to see the sizes side by side before you ring anyone.
Do you cover Mount Maunganui?
Yes, and in the Bay of Plenty we are the installer as well as the manufacturer. Bayside’s branch runs out of its own yard at 30 Alach Street, Gate Pa in Tauranga, with the trucks, the plant and the install crew based there, and Mount Maunganui is covered from that yard as part of the western Bay. The shell is moulded in Whakatāne and set by our own team, and the person who quotes your job is on your site when it goes in.
Are fibreglass pools in-ground pools?
Yes — a Bayside shell is designed to be set into the ground, so an in-ground pool is the standard case rather than a special order. The range also includes a Freestanding option for a section where digging is not wanted; it is the same shell family, sitting above ground.
What is different about a fibreglass pool?
The shell arrives as one finished piece rather than being built up on site, so the on-site work is preparing the base, placing and setting it, and everything around the water. That is also why the surface matters so much: ours is ChlorShield, the gelcoat system on every Bayside shell, and the ChlorShield page sets out what it is built to do. We will talk about any pool type with you — we just sell the one we manufacture.
What colours do fibreglass pools come in?
There is a full palette on the pool colours page, shown on real pools rather than as swatches on a screen — which is the only honest way to choose one. You can also ask to see the colour in person before the shell is ordered.
Does being close to the beach change anything for a pool at the Mount?
Two things are worth having in the conversation. The ground along here is sandy coastal ground, so the base and the drainage are specified for that rather than pulled off a template. And a section this close to the water catches wind and salt air, which is worth thinking about where the equipment sits as well as where the pool goes. Both get looked at on the site visit.
