Fibreglass Pool Ideas Auckland
Fibreglass pool ideas for Auckland — one-piece shells, built in New Zealand.

We manufacture the shell, Scape puts it in. That is the whole model behind a Bayside fibreglass pool in Auckland: built in Whakatāne, installed on site by the licensed local installer who covers the Auckland region.
At a glance
Sizes are quoted as internal, water-line measurements — an 8 x 4 is 8 x 4 of water. Depth is the shell height, and capacity is measured to the top of the shell.
The photo up top
What to look at in a pool photo
That is a finished Bayside pool, and it is the best way we can show you what one looks like in a yard — it is not a photo of a section in Auckland. Look at how much room the pool takes out of the space around it, where the water line sits when you look out from the house, and what the yard looks like once the paving and planting are done. For an in-ground fibreglass pool in Auckland, those three decide it.
- The real size of the thing A pool looks smaller on paper than it does in a section. Use the picture to judge the length you want against the space you have — the difference between a 6.5 m and a 9 m swimming pool is obvious in a photograph and invisible in a spec sheet.
- One piece of water Every Bayside shell is moulded as a single piece before it leaves Whakatāne, so the pool arrives complete and the water line is continuous. Nothing is built up on site out of panels or a liner.
- The finishing decisions The pool is the start of the job, not the end of it. Fencing, paving or decking, and the planting around it, are what you notice in a picture of a finished yard — and they are worth deciding while the section is still open ground.
Want to see one in the ground rather than a photo of one? Scape installs right across Auckland — give them a call and ask. Every shell they set was moulded in our own factory first.
On the ground
Who installs a Bayside pool across the region
Tim, at Scape, is the Bayside installer for the Auckland region rather than for one corner of it. Auckland City and the isthmus, the North Shore, Howick and the east, out west and north to Orewa all sit in the same patch, which is why each of those places has its own pool ideas page here.
The section sets the job
Auckland backyards are tight, often boundary to boundary with the house on one side and a fence on the other. On a section that size the clear space decides more about the pool than the model list does.
How the machine gets in
Where a digger and a one-piece shell can physically travel comes before everything else here, and it is worked out on your property at quoting stage. On a tight section that planning is the job, not an afterthought.
The report that goes with the consent
When a pool is going into the ground, the application to the council carries a geotechnical report on your ground. Tim gathers that report as part of the job. It is what tells the base design what the section is actually made of.
On track record, plainly: Tim is newer to installing pools than he is to earthworks. The pools completed in the region so far are a few rather than a long list, and he would rather that was said up front than left for you to work out. The rest of the job is not new to him. Scape is an established Auckland landscape construction business, doing earthworks, retaining, levels, paving and fencing with its own crews, and the shell arrives moulded and checked from Whakatāne.
For an Auckland section
How to choose a swimming pool for an Auckland section
Every decision on an Auckland pool comes back to four questions — how much clear space you have, how the pool will actually be used, how the shell gets to the hole, and what happens around the water. Settle those and the rest follows.
Space on the section
Measure the clear space first — the pool, the surround you want, and room to walk around it. We usually start from what actually fits and work back to the model.
How you will use it
How the pool gets used decides its length and its depth. Laps want length; a plunge pool wants to be simple and cheap to run; a family pool generally wants both shallow and deep ends.
Getting it in
The base is prepared and the shell is set by the same team that quoted the job — so access gets worked out up front, not left to whoever turns up.
Around the pool
What goes around the pool is a separate purchase and usually a later one. Copings, the surround, fencing and landscaping are worth planning at the same time as the pool even when they are bought later.
Terminology
In-ground (or inground) pool, or fibreglass pool? The Auckland answer
The words get used interchangeably — swimming pool, in-ground pool, fibreglass pool — so it is worth being precise about what you are buying.
In-ground pool
A pool set into the ground rather than standing above it. Every Bayside shell is designed to go in the ground, so an in-ground pool is the normal case rather than an upgrade. Where digging is not wanted, there is also a Freestanding option in the range — still a Bayside shell, sitting above ground.
Fibreglass pool
Fibreglass means the pool body is a one-piece moulded shell, made in our Whakatāne factory and delivered complete. On site the work is preparing the base, placing and setting the shell, then everything around it — rather than building the pool body itself on site.
Swimming pool
The widest of the three, and the one people type most. It covers a small plunge pool through to a 12 m family and lap pool — the difference being length, depth and how much of the section they take up.
A detail that catches people out: our sizes are internal, water-line dimensions. An 8 x 4 is 8 x 4. Depth is the shell height and capacity is to the top of the shell. Whether you type inground pool or in-ground pool, it is the same pool.
The range
The size range, smallest to largest
Ten fibreglass swimming pool models cover it. At the small end: the 3.6 x 2.2 m Tranquil and the 4 x 2.4 m Pause. Mid-range: the 5.45 x 3.4 m Element, the 6.5 x 3 m Retreat and the 7 x 3.5 m Cove. Larger: the 8 x 4 m Satin, the 9 x 4.4 m Shoreline, the 10 x 4.4 m Coastline and the 12 x 4.4 m Big Bertha. Every one is moulded in Whakatāne. Sizes are quoted as internal water-line dimensions, so an 8 x 4 really is 8 x 4 of water, depth is the shell height, and capacity is measured to the top of the shell.
Start to finish
The sequence of a pool build in Auckland
The sequence below is the same on every job — what changes is how much of it your section makes difficult.
- A look at the site — where the pool sits, how the digger and the shell get in, and where the equipment goes.
- A written quote — the pool itself, in the ground and running, with the inclusions listed plainly.
- The shell is built — moulded in Whakatāne by the people who make every Bayside pool.
- Dig and prepare — excavation, base preparation and backfill of the hole.
- Place the shell — set on the prepared base by the installer who quoted the work.
- Fill, commission and hand over — water in, pump and filtration running, handbook handed across.
Expect the shell to go in quickly and the finish to take longer. Fencing in particular has to be done before the pool is used, not after.
Year one
Once the pool is in
On handover day we walk you through the whole pool — the equipment, the water and what the first week looks like — so it is familiar before we leave. After that the main job is the water: keep the chemistry in range and the surface and the equipment both stay happy.

Questions
Questions about a pool in Auckland
How much does a fibreglass pool cost in Auckland?
It depends on the model, the size, how easily the shell reaches your section, and what you put around the pool — those four things move the number more than anything else. We do not quote a figure without seeing the site, because a wrong number wastes your time and ours. The pool cost guide carries the bands our own written quotes run across; your installer writes the actual price for your section. Send us your section and you will get a written quote for it.
How big a pool fits in Auckland?
That is a question about your section, not about Auckland in general — the clear space is what decides it. The fibreglass swimming pool range starts at the 3.6 x 2.2 m Tranquil plunge pool and runs to the 12 x 4.4 m Big Bertha, with ten models in between. A tight section usually ends up at a plunge or compact model; a section with room usually takes a 7 to 8 metre family pool. Worth remembering that our sizes are internal, water-line measurements, so an 8 x 4 pool gives you 8 x 4 of water, and the shell needs a little more space than that.
Is a building consent required for a pool in Auckland?
Pool fencing is the part that is not optional. It has to comply with the building code, and it is checked — that applies to any pool in Auckland, whether the pool itself needed a consent or not. When the pool itself goes in, the application to the council carries a geotechnical report on your ground, and Tim gathers that as part of the job. Depending on the section, a resource or building consent may also come into it. We work through that as part of the job rather than leaving you to work it out, and the fencing sits outside the pool price, so ask for it to be shown on the quote.
How long from quote to swimming?
The excavation and the shell placement are the quick part — usually a few days once the team is on site. What takes the time is what comes after: filling, surrounds, fencing and getting the water balanced. You get a realistic sequence up front rather than just the fast part, so you can plan the garden and the fencing around it.
What is the most popular Bayside pool in Auckland?
It follows the sections rather than the postcode. Where space is tight, the plunge and compact models win — the Tranquil, the Pause and the Element. Where there is room, a 7 to 8 metre family pool is the usual pick, which is the Retreat, the Cove or the Satin. The whole range with its dimensions is on the pool range page if you want to see the sizes side by side before you ring anyone.
Do you cover Auckland?
We manufacture, and a licensed local pool builder and installer puts the pool in. For this region that is Scape, covering the Auckland region. Every Bayside shell is moulded in our Whakatāne factory and installed on site by the installer who covers your area, and the person who quotes your job is the person on your site when it goes in.
Are fibreglass pools in-ground pools?
Yes — a Bayside shell is designed to be set into the ground, so an in-ground pool is the standard case rather than a special order. The range also includes a Freestanding option for a section where digging is not wanted; it is the same shell family, sitting above ground.
Why choose fibreglass over other in-ground pools?
The shell arrives as one finished piece rather than being built up on site, so the on-site work is preparing the base, placing and setting it, and everything around the water. That is also why the surface matters so much: ours is ChlorShield, the gelcoat system on every Bayside shell, and the ChlorShield page sets out what it is built to do. We will talk about any pool type with you — we just sell the one we manufacture.
What colours do fibreglass pools come in?
There is a full palette on the pool colours page, shown on real pools rather than as swatches on a screen — which is the only honest way to choose one. You can also ask to see the colour in person before the shell is ordered.
How long has Tim been installing pools in Auckland?
Tim is newer to pool installation than he is to earthworks. The pools he has completed in the region so far are a few rather than a long list, and that is worth knowing before you call. What does not change with the length of the list is the way the job is done: the site is assessed, access is planned on your property, the geotechnical report goes in with the council application, and the shell is set by the crew that prepared the ground.
