Bayside Pools Whakatāne
The factory — where every shell is made

Whakatāne is where Bayside Pools began and where every shell is still built. The factory runs its own installs across Whakatāne and the Eastern Bay of Plenty, so you can visit the yard, watch your pool being laid up by hand, and then have it installed by the same team that made it. No middle layer, and no pool ever travels past its own factory to get to you.
Areas we serve
Where the factory installs
Whakatāne, Ōhope, Kawerau and the Eastern Bay of Plenty. If you are local, the team arriving at your place works ten minutes from the factory, and the shell has barely been on a truck before it is in your ground.
About the factory
You can watch your own pool being built
Most pool buyers never see the thing they are buying made. In Whakatāne you can. Every Bayside shell is laid up by hand at the factory — gelcoat, corrosion barrier, structural laminate, core and rib, then the outer seal — and each stage is inspected before the next one goes on. If you want to stand there and watch yours being built, you are welcome to.
That is only useful if the pool is then installed properly, so the factory runs its own installs locally. The crew that sets your pool is the crew that has been in the factory all week. When something needs sorting — a level, a fitting, the way a model sits on a particular slope — the answer is ten minutes away, not a phone call to another region.
Everything is made to AS 1838 / NZS AS 1838 and AS 1839 / NZS AS 1839, the standards that govern fibreglass pools in New Zealand and Australia, and every shell leaves with a 20-year structural warranty and 15 years on osmosis.
Whakatāne is also the northern end of the Bay of Plenty network. Shells are made here and installed from here, or delivered on to Tauranga and the wider region, and on down the country to the rest of the Bayside installer network.
- Every Bayside shell in the country is made here
- Hand laid up in five stages, inspected as it goes
- Built to AS 1838 / NZS AS 1838 and AS 1839 / NZS AS 1839
- 20-year structural warranty and 15 years on osmosis
- Come and see your shell being built — just ask

How it works
From the mould to your section
Buying from the factory shortens the job rather than lengthening it. Your quote carries the real dates for your section.

1. Choose the model, visit the factory
Walk the range with the people who build it. The moulds are all here, so you can see exactly what each model is rather than guessing from a drawing.

2. Your shell gets made
Hand laid up in stages and inspected between each one, then finished and released for delivery. You are welcome to come through while it is on the floor.

3. Site prepared and the shell set
The local crew works your site — access, levels, excavation, base and drainage — and the shell comes the short distance from the factory to be placed and set.

4. Fill, commission and handover
Backfill and bracing while the pool fills, equipment connected and tested, water balanced, then a walkthrough of the pool and the equipment with the people who made it.
Why choose
Why buy from Whakatāne
There is one obvious difference between buying here and buying through a reseller: the factory is not a supplier to your installer, it is your installer.
- The shell is made where the install is run from
- No freight to the far end of the country for local jobs
- Anything that needs sorting is sorted at the source
- Ten models, all with their moulds on site
- You deal with the factory from quote through to handover

At the factory
What you get dealing direct
Buying direct from the factory changes the practical details more than the price tag. These are the parts that matter.
Factory visits
Come through, see the moulds, watch shells being laid up and ask the awkward questions before you commit.
All ten models on site
Every model in the range is built here, so the differences between them are things you can look at rather than interpret.
Hand laid up construction
Five stages, inspected between each one, built to AS 1838 / NZS AS 1838 and AS 1839 / NZS AS 1839.
The factory installs locally
The Eastern Bay of Plenty is run directly by the factory team, so no separate installer is involved.
Short haul
Local shells have barely any distance to travel, which reduces the risk that comes with every trip on a truck.
Aftercare and warranty
The warranty comes from the people who made the pool, and the equipment package is set up with it.
Made here
It all starts in Whakatāne
Every Bayside pool in New Zealand — whether it is installed in Kerikeri, Christchurch or anywhere between — starts on the factory floor here.
Every shell, every model
Tranquil through to Big Bertha, all ten models are laid up in this building and released from it.
FactoryBuilt and inspected to standard
AS 1838 / NZS AS 1838 and AS 1839 / NZS AS 1839, with inspection at each stage of the layup rather than only at the end.
StandardsInstalled from the same yard
Eastern Bay of Plenty installs are run by the factory team, from the first site visit to the day you fill it.
LocalQuestions
Whakatāne factory questions
The questions people ask when they find out they can buy from the factory. If yours is not here, ask us.
Can I actually come and see my pool being built?
Yes. The factory is in Whakatāne and you are welcome to come through, look at the moulds and watch shells being laid up. Ask us to arrange a time and we will work it around what is on the floor that week.
Does buying direct from the factory make it cheaper?
We do not publish prices, and buying direct is not about a discount. What it does change is the handling: there is no freight to the far end of the country for local jobs, no layer between you and the people who built the shell, and anything that needs sorting gets sorted at the source. We quote in writing with the job broken down.
Who installs the pool if the factory is here?
The factory does. Whakatāne and the Eastern Bay of Plenty are run directly by the Bayside team, so the install crew is based ten minutes from where your shell was made rather than arriving from another region.
How long does it take from order to swimming?
The shell has to be built and finished before it can be set, and the site work has to be done first. Because the factory and the install crew are in the same place, the coordination is shorter than a long-distance job. Your quote carries the real dates.
What are the shells built to?
AS 1838 / NZS AS 1838 and AS 1839 / NZS AS 1839, the standards covering fibreglass pools in New Zealand and Australia. They are laid up by hand in five stages — gelcoat, corrosion barrier, structural laminate, core and rib, outer seal — and inspected between each stage.
Do I need building consent in Whakatāne?
Generally pools under the 35,000 litre threshold are exempt work, but pool fencing usually requires a building consent and larger pools or difficult sites need more. We will tell you where your pool sits and handle the process with you.
Can you get a pool onto a sloping or tight section here?
Usually, yes. The Eastern Bay throws up sloping sections, coastal ground and access that needs thinking about, and the factory team works those sites regularly. We work out the access and the base at the site visit rather than on the day.
Which model suits a Whakatāne section?
It depends on the yard and what you want from the pool. Because every model is made on site you can look at them all in one visit. Send us your address and we will give you a view rather than a guess.
Do you install outside Whakatāne?
The Eastern Bay of Plenty is covered directly by the factory. The wider Bay of Plenty, including Tauranga, Mount Maunganui and Rotorua, is run by our Tauranga yard, and the rest of the country is covered by the local Bayside installer for that region.
